I don't want to post the whole loooooooong story, but my DH has to take a med for narcolepsy, and it is suddenly not showing up on his drug screen in either urine or blood. I SAW him take the medicine just hours prior to the doctor collecting the sample. Why would he test negative? We took him to my NP the same day for a blood screen because his doctor refused to take a blood sample after it didn't show in his urine. Again, it came back negative. He HAS to have his medication or he is completely disabled. His narcolepsy is so bad if he isn't moving he's asleep, or sometimes falls asleep during a conversation. This has SO complicated our life, and the doctors are treating him like he's selling his meds now. I would know, and anyone who knows anything about narcolepsy would know he is NOT going without his meds.

The medication is ritalin or methylphenidate. We can't figure out why he can't just fail a darn drug test suddenly!!!

Funny situation if it weren't so critical that he get his meds.... Can anyone help or advise on this one?

We asked his pharmacist and he said that it will not show on an amphetamine screen because while it is listed as an amphetamine it is not actually. I have spoken with both doctors and neither will divulge anymore info. It's imperative that we get this taken care of in the next week or so.

We are attempting to get foster children, just completed the classes and certifications. This is not just going to affect us. This is also affecting the future of my 3 little cousins. I am really worried that we could lose the chance to keep them from being adopted outside our family and never heard from again.

Any help or advice will be MUCH appreciated!

I agree, and I would go to the local hospital and explain what is going on, and have them test him. The positive test and the date on the test will be all you need. And the prayers. I'll pray too!

Yes, that's what I have been told. I argued with my NP because she said she marked the screen to test specifically for ritalin but under the heading amphetamine...which I wonder if the lab techs would know that it is NOT actually an amphetamine.

Sooooooo, back to square one. It sucks to have to prove you aren't lying about taking your medication when those who are SUPPOSED to help, refuse

Not either of those.... but I had a thought... strange, I know!

What other meds might he have taken? I KNOW some meds cancel out other meds..... might he have even somehow have been exposed to something without knowing about it?

Like maybe the chickens ate a weed who properties ended up in an egg which your hubbie ingested and said yumm but just so happened to coat the lining of his stomach or something????

We DID that with my NP, and it showed the same result...false negative, with a blood sample as opposed to urine. I need to know what could possibly alter the results of the tests. He did take it.

A short story with MIL her glocoma med was bad and didn't help just like she hadn't put the drops in her eyes and FIL did it for her so...... Where did you get the meds??????? I don't think I should say where she got her meds but it was a BIG place. She switched and all is well with her glocoma.....makes you wonder? Yes.
