Any 'ol timer dog training tricks????

Personally, I would set her up with chickens around her and hide and watch her and if she starts playing with them, "roll" her. I have a dog that is my stock dog- she herd cows and goats, fights other dogs and chases cats, but doesn't care at all about my chickens. Maybe I'm just lucky.

If it is a young pup turn a broody hen loose on them. Works every time. I have raised numerous pups in my 46 years and this puts the fear of God in the pup and mine have all stayed clear of the chickens

Sounds like you have received a lot of good advice. I would vote for the shock collar.

I trained my pup with domination by the "alpha" leader, rolling and subjugating him, when he showed any interest in the chickens at all. This took one day...three times rolling total. I also let him sniff the chicken while I was holding it...and let her peck him in the face when he sniffed that end! He didn't look at a chicken for about a year. Then, one day, he was sniffing the ground and kind of loping across the yard and the chickens were scattering in front of him. I don't even think he was paying attention to them, but I found this to be an opportunity to reinforce my training. I rolled him and held a chicken to his neck, while firmly saying "NO". Now, if I present a chicken to him, he will turn his head and tuck his tail.

This is a very high prey-driven dog and is a natural born hunter. This method works so well that I've never had an episode and the birds free range at all times, we've left them alone for 4 days at a time and they are left alone each day while everyone is gone.

It depends on the intelligence of the dog and your willingness to follow through~ with any type of training. I don't think there is any one method and everyone uses what is most successful for them. This is just my success story. I hope you have one of your own soon!

They don't cower near the birds they just act like they aren't really there any more.
