Last night, the 12th, the ducks would NOT settle down.
They were pacing and making the noise they make in the morning when they are itching to get out of the night pen and run around. But this was before they were confined to the night pen - they were in the day pen still (which is 10'x16' and covered all around with 2"x3" coated wire and 2' of 1" coated chicken wire across the bottom.
There has been evidence of something relatively small digging around the base of the night pen (a couple of nights ago). I reckon it's smallish because it must have gotten under the lower eletric wire - which is 2" to 6" above the ground.
I put some urine around the pen and did not see more evidence today.
I have cats, and one of them is good at rodent hunting, but sometimes I think the population surges.
Tonight the ducks seem much quieter. Though just now I think I caught a whiff of skunk.
Oh, peachy.
Last year a skunk visited the day pen, before I included it in the eletric fence perimeter. It did no harm, just nosed around.
