Any other gourd crafters here?

Scrambled,

"Eggs" were one of the first gourds I began growing. I used cut up pieces of them to make the "porch roofs" on the bird and toad houses. I use the silicone to attach them to the "main" gourd.

I tried using pieces of pine cones for my shingles first but it was quite painful. Atleast the gourd seeds don't bite back!

That would be sooo cool, I would love to grow the eggs, have plenty of the regular ones drying in my shed from what I grew this spring. Just one more thing to keep on my list this year for Christmas crafts!!

TB1 here sent me a beautifully painted gourd birdhouse for my Secret Santa gift. It arrived on Christmas Eve and was hung in the window above my kitchen sink. She did an AWESOME job!

I've been wanting to plant gourd seeds for the past few summers, but think I'm going to give it a whirl this year.

I just found this awesome place to buy gourds (for those that can't/don't want to grow them for themselves)

I plan on doing alot more gourd growing, myself, this coming year. I'm thinking about starting some of them in the coldframe this time and planting up some of the hard-to-mow areas of our hillside. I'm going to sow some seeds from dried gourds that we bought from Pumpkin Hollow , just to see what kind of weirdness I end up with but will aslo be ordering some fresh seeds.

Since Skip is tired of walking into my gourd projects that usually end up hanging around in the living room, I've decided to turn one of the spare bedrooms into a craft room/wine distillery (have plenty of 5 gallon buckets and 2 aces of dandelions

). I'm so glad he puts up with me!

If anyone wants to go in on a gourd seed order, just PM or e-mail me as I'm gonna start shopping for the seeds in a few weeks since I can't find a good variety of seeds locally!

I used to do gourd crafts alot more than I do now. I got started after someone told me about a "gourd show". If you haven't been, you gotta go! There are gourd clubs in almost every state, and shows to boot. Here's a link to the American Gourd Society:

Anything you make with wood, you can make out of a gourd. Paint, stain, decopague, carve, woodburn..... I've done birdhouses, ornaments, bowls, musical instruments, animals...the list goes on & on. I have a list of links too if anyone wants them.

I don't do them now as much as I used to, but its a lot of fun! I still teach classes at the park.

Everytime I look at this thread I want to work on those gourds in the garage!!! I need to buy some new paints and def. add this to my list this year! Dawn, my daughter is off at college and when she comes home she is always afraid her room will be turned into "The Yarn Room"!!! A craft room would sure be nice though and when she is moved out completely one day I will take the big bed out, put a daybed in there and really make it the yarn and craft room!! lol!
