Does anyone out there know if you clip the feathers aroung the vent on bantam cochins for breeding, do they take points off at shows for that? I am going to show my birds this spring, but I don't know what to do about the excess amount of fluff because they are breeders too. I don't know if they have been knocking points off at shows for this or not.

I am not a judge but I do show. You can not clip feathers for any reason. I am pretty sure it is a disqualification.
Pulling feathers is also a no-no. It could be argued that you are hiding a defect or a disqualification.

I am not a judge, but I do know that the more feathering a bird has the better. I have seen judges that cannot decide between two birds, they start looking for missing feathers to help them decide a winner. If it were up to me, I wouldn't clip any feathers until you can find an actual judge to give you a definite answer.

You'll probably have to do artificial insemination, which most people do with their cochins anyway. I'm sure someone will have the link to the good article about how to do it. Pretty easy.
