Any rooster owners out there?

I must have 20 roosters, and at least as many recipes. In my flock, that behavior would have moved him up in the culling line.

My "productive" roosters wait on the girls before eating, and their only aggression is in chasing off other males and similar pecking-order dominance behaviors WITH OTHER CHICKENS. A Rooster gets one "freebie" with me. The second is fatal.

"When the need arises - and it does - you must be able to shoot your own dog. Don't farm it out - that doesn't make it nicer, it makes it worse." - Robert A. Heinlein

I don't expect a chicken to act like a human, but i DO expect it to know its place in the flock. It is no kindness to allow an aggressor to live and continue abusing the innocent (or yourself) for reasons of emotion. Aggressive Roosters become meals for myself and my family.

I take no joy in it, but neither do I shirk from the duty. The bird has chosen its place in the culling line by its behaviors, I merely give motive force to its election.

I agree with you. I have never killed..anything. I would be happy to give him to someone but I cannot find anyone.

It could have been your eye, that he pecked. If you had loads of experience, and a lot of space, and older hens... then I might dink around seeing how he will turn out in 3-4 months.

You have baby chicks, and one pullet, first year (?) owner. I would put him on craigslist, and not ask any questions.

The easiest way to catch him is to get him at night.

I agree with this.

You deserve to enjoy your chickens, not to be held hostage to a badly-behaved cockerel.

I did put him on Craigslist. Yes first time owner. I got 4 chicks originally. One turned out to be rooster. 2 others died which left me with him and Stella. I bought a bigger coop and got more chicks. I have been trying to get rid of him for a while. They have plenty of room. Over 1000 sq ft and there are 3 coops. I wish I did have older hens but I don't. I am just gonna put him in his own space until I find someone willing to take him.

Where are you located? If you're near me, I'll give you a nice male that's passed my tests and a pullet or two

He needs discipline. Do you have any older hens that can smack some sense into him?

If not you'll have to assert your dominance over him. Either pin him down(Embarrass him), or hold him like a football tightly, but not squeezing, & carry him around the yard.
Thanks for the info. I finally had enough of his bs and the other day I wacked him and pinned him down. I held him there for a bit. Now when I go into his area, he walks the other direction. So, if he tries to buck up to me again, I will just continue to hold him down until he understands his place. Hopefully though, he is smart enough to only need one lesson.
