I am a tenor, but I can also hit falsetto.
The upper range can get temporarily lost due to a number of reasons. What you drink or eat, constriction of the vocal chord muscles due to physical reasons, etc..
Assuming it's temporary, you can "retrain" your throat msucles to attain the falsetto range. Some people have more success with this than others. I find that if I drink certain things, like dairy products, I have more trouble hitting the upper ranges. A good vocal warmup is essential.
