Any special requirements for the gang plank?

We've got the coop and the run built but need to construct a gang plank. Any special requirements? What should we avoid?

ours is just a piece of wood leading up. You can staple shingles or something to it if you worry about them slipping, but ours is just a piece of wood.

I used a nail gun to nail in 1x1's going up my plank so the chickens have "steps" to cling to if needed.

Great name for it.

I use a 1 x 6 (or 8) at a shallow angle, with strips of wood (cleats) going across it every 4-5 inches for traction.
