Any suggestions on coop security? Just lost a pullet at 4 this am.

We think it was a fox. I forgot to lock the chicken coop up, fell asleep in the recliner chair, woke to chickens cackling. So other than get a few dogs (in the process I hope) any suggestions on automatic door closers, sesnory lights and music on automatic timers? Any other suggestions would be helpful as we just lost our hound dog who sort of watched over the flock. They are freerange chickens with a tight coop, when the door is closed. Thanks. Anita

i'm so sorry, Anita!

i don't have any experience with foxes and what might deter them. Hopefully someone will come along that does. i've also never used an automatic door, though i know many people do. i would worry a chicken would be standing in the door when it closed.

If the closed coop is the only security, get an automatic door. If the door closes, the chickens will move. Just set the timer for late enough for them to be inside.
