My "great" plan was to order a straight run of dual purpose heritage breeds. Prior to ordering, I arranged for the cockerels to go to someone at about 4 weeks so that they could finish them and do what they like with them. Well, as all great plans are destined to fail, the person backed out on me. Anywho, I have 12 cockerels, black australorps, speckled sussex, easter eggers, dark brahmas, and possibly a gl wyandotte. They are 6.5 weeks old. I did not plan to have 21 birds, let alone two separate sets. They still need a heat lamp at night as some of them are not fully feathered. So I don't really have housing for the cockerels to finish them, and I am also pretty sure I am going to get squeamish and won't be able to process them myself. They have been organically raised to date. I guess I am just overwhelmed and don't know what to do. Is anyone even going to want these guys even if they are free? Ugh. Such a headache. To take them to auction is expensive since they are still so light and I need an avian influenza cert. to go. And if they didn't sell, there is no way I would bring them back near the hens. Who knows what they would pick up. I don't want to spend any more money on housing at this point either. Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions. I guess I am just feeling overwhelmed!
