About that tell-tale curly drake tail feather... I don't trust that so much anymore. I thought one of my young Runners was female because she never developed that tail feather but found it curious that she quacked like a male and behaved like a male with all the dipping and bobbing males do. Yesterday I saw that "she" is indeed a "he", without question!
