x's 2 on using hardware cloth every where and I would add a DIG SKIRT and HOT WIRE. Starting at the very bottom, going up 4 inches put about 3 - 4 rows and then across the very top for anyone who comes on to the top via wings or jumps over from another structure or tree. Aside from bears, once something is zapped, it's not interested in experiencing that sensation again.
