Any tips on how to RESTART EGG LAYING?

Hi,

I have about 45 hens different breeds that had been producing pretty good some are still a little young and had not started yet but we were getting there. We had incredible cold weather in the negatives followed by MANY feet of snow and they have been stuck in there house for weeks. Well the thaw started and they finally got to come out but now there are no eggs?? They are out scratching and doing what chickens do with the exception of laying eggs. Any ideas of how to restart them or how long it might take Thanks in advance Nicki dani2

If you add a light to extend the day, they will restart fairly quickly.

Hi we had a light on for a while do you know if it is ok to leave a light on 24 hours a day or does this mess them up? Thanks Nicki dani2

They need about 14 hours of light. The lights on 24/7 is not good for them.

And sing them a lullaby when it's lights out. My absolute favorite is:

"Oh I had a little chicky and she wouldn't lay an egg
so I poured hot water up and down her leg
and the little chicky cried
and the little chicky begged
and the little chicky laid me a hard boiled egg."

Mine lay more when I give them oatmeal with raisins
