ANy Tips on what I can plant in my Aviary with my Peafowl? Want some color in there.

What kind of ferns? I have some hanging baskets of ferns on the fence of the peafowl pen. I love ferns, especially when they grow in big masses like in a forest or a field. Ferns would look very nice in a pen!

I have a few different types, I am unsure of there names, They grow like crazy in the wooded part of my property. They grow in clumps and also like a ground cover.

That sounds very beautiful! I just looked up the name of the ferns we have in the hanging baskets...I think they are boston ferns. we have an area in our backyard near an old dog pen that is covered in boston ferns. Here is a picture of Peep as a baby exploring around some of the ferns.

I tried to figure out what types but a lot look very close to me so I am not sure, I may try planting some in there.

Well I wish I took some pics earlier, but I had planted 6 different ferns ( 2 Different types ) and three other bushes that grow wild on my property, Well they must think there at a ll you can eat buffet because there is very little left to them after about three hours.

If you plant bamboo and don't want it to take over, plant it in something plastic or metal. Anything from a 5 gal bucket to an old water trough will work. Drill some holes in the BOTTOM not the sides and plant the whole thing so that the rim is just above ground level. Bamboo usually runs just underground but if any roots sneak out the holes and pop up near by you can take care of them easily. We planted a 4 ft wide strip of bamboo across the end outside of one of our pens and used old sheet metal roofing as an edge on the 3 sides away from the pen. That way it can only spread into the pen where the birds eat most of the tender shoots as they sprout up.

The clumping bamboo doesn't spread that much. It grows in a clump and when a new shoot pops up that you don't want, you kick it over and it dies.

If you have trouble with your peas eating the plants you plant, keep or put the plant in a pot and put it in the pen still in the pot. If they haven't eaten on it after a week or a few days it should work.

Cast iron plants work.
