My hens have dropped off in there production. None of them are over 2.5 years. Out of 11 laying hens my avg is 3 eggs. I just do not understand. They get all the food they want, scraps and get to get out of their yard a couple of evenings a week to free range. Any ideas??

Mine are doing the same thing. Are yours molting or any new changes that may have happened to stress them out? New birds in the flock anything like that?

I know mine are stressed out from being moved to a new coop and locked in there for a week while we finished their outdoor run.

These three links will give you plenty of ideas. The most common are that they are hiding a nest, something is eating them (either the chickens themselves or some predator), a human is stealing them, or they have been stressed, maybe from the heat, running out of water, a predator attack, new location, change in feed, change in pecking order, whatever. Mine dropped off a while and I thought it was the heat. Then I found a big snake in the coop.

I added some new birds about 3 months ago. Same coop, food and treat. Just hot here but they have LOTS of shade!

I only have two hens that are laying age at the moment and haven't had a single egg in 5 days. Need to post some chicken recipes in the coop I guess....lol....one is molting and the other is just annoyed with me.

My gals are eating Layena layer crumbles. I feed them inside the coop so there is no waste and the food cannot get wet. Also a couple times a week I through out some scratch. About 2 cups for 25 birds. Scraps also. I have tried pellets 2 different times and they HATE them and do not eat worth a darn. I read some of those links and my flock has been exposed to CRD and is closed. I did not know that would make them have lower egg production. I will just have to except this I guess and just love them as pets.
