I'm actually pretty new to chicken keeping, and I actually never meant to keep a chicken except this one had a special tug at my heart! My parents brought him home for dinner but after hanging out with him a couple days, there was just no way a cutie pie like that was meant to be dinner. He never really exhibited fear of people since we got him.
I believe he's a Rhode Island Red or a mix thereof. Very docile and easy going. A little scared of heights. He doesn't run away if you chase after him, but he will if you have a stick with you. I'm guessing he's about 6 months old since his comb is now quite large and he has urges to shag my slippers. He's been evicted from my apartment so now he's staying at a chicken coop at a friend of my dad's. But yesterday he got beaten up! I'm quite furious because the friend decided to put one of his roosters and hen in with my chicken without being sure that they weren't going to fight. I wasn't there, but I'm guessing the rooster wasn't so happy that mine was getting close to his lady friend and ... (see picture)
The current chicken coop is too small for him with all the residents there and a little too far from where I live for me to give him the attention he needs. I wish I had a better home to house him in but my current situation doesn't allow it. He'll never be a show chicken with his damaged wattle. But if you would like a pet rooster (without plans of eating him), and live in Wisconsin, let's talk! My rooster loves people and he loves making clucking and cooing noises (crowing if there's a rooster competition). A little curious guy, but if you hold him next to you, he'll stay right there patiently. He gets along well with most other chicken, I mean he's now housed with 10 other roosters (2-3 months old). I could go on and on really.
But please, if anyone thinks they might have a home for him, let me know. I hope to one day have a place for him inside a house, but right now that's not possible. Once I do though, will you give him back?
I just don't feel right leaving him where he is now.
