anybody else in lockdown? Its my first time hatching and growing overly nervous.

Had to create a new account since my email was hacked. Late last night I had one egg pip and three more this morning :)! I am hoping I didn't screw up. I candled the others since there was no movement and one piped already. Please tell me I didn't harm it?

After the chicks pip, they have to finish absorbing the yolk which is why it can take so long for them to start zipping out of the egg. I've had babies take almost 24 hours to from pip to hatch. I have 6 eggs due to hatch tomorrow. I've done this quite a few times know but I'm usually on pins and needles on hatch day. I'm particularly excited about this hatch because I have one mystery bantam egg, two from my EE and the father is between two roosters one bantam, one standard), and three Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs. I can't wait to see what they are all going to look like!! I'll hopefully be loading pictures of the new chicks tomorrow! Good luck everyone!

It's probably fine. I open my incubator during lockdown to take out hatched babies all the time without problems, but I do it very quickly & keep an eye on the humidity & mist any exposed membranes a little if they need it. Ducks really do take their sweet time to hatch. It seems like it takes forever, but before you know it, you'll have new ducklings

Congrats!

I have 10 early birds. I have nine more pipped. When everyone is out I will post pics. The ones that are already out are doing good. Day 21 starts today at 11:30 A.M.

I went into lockdown at about 11pm Saturday.. I am hopeful that I will get some chicks but I really don't think I will have any hatch.. They all look like quitters to me except for 1 :(

But you never know - I've had eggs before that I didn't think would hatch & they did. Last year there was one that I was positive was a quitter & was going to toss after lockdown; it ended up hatching out after day 25 & the chick turned out to be one of our prettiest roos lol.

One new fuzzy butt that's all the way out and one that's hanging half out of the shell lol. They both are a day early. Day 21 is officially at 9 p tomorrow night...well later tonight since its almost 2 am. I can't sleep for watching them lol.....oh I've got Black Copper Marans and Lavender Orps in the homemade bator

:D
