Anybody else on LOCKDOWN?? Hatch day Aug. 5th!

Poor Patience!! Perhaps Sticky is a better name...

I'm thinking you may have some sort of interesting feathering on Fighter- I can't wait to see what that looks like in a few days.

I'm just about ready for sedatives staring at these last two due...one isn't doing anything, and the other has been pipped most of the day. She's talking to me, but she's just not ready!

I have a bunch due in 2 days, and 2 of them have already pipped through the membrane into the air pocket, as of me moving them to the hatcher last night- I'm starting to watch those 2, too!

Update: 12:10, Fighter still standing!!!! wont lay down now....I guess he is afraid too....Patience, will still down on the ground been over 4hrs....but he is scooting around the bator...just cant/wont stand up...also looks bald...

no more eggs zipping, did a count have 15 more to go!!!!! and nothing.

wheew..glad i didnt set my eggs today ...we went away & i came home to see how the temp was doing ( trying to get it back 2 normal) & it was 103.4!!!!!!!
ahhh im about to throw this thing in the yard!!!

what kind of bator do you have???? with mine, its all about what its doing outside and the room temp....I have the a/c off next door, completely....so when I walk in , its hot...i sweat....

Renee, So far Im so thankful I havent had to put them down...when you sent me that post, like You Im soft hearted, espeically for animals....are you kidding!!!

Look at my tag:
7 dogs
4 parrots
3 cats
and now chickens
and babies chicks....lol

I tend to rescue every animal I see, I rush them to the vet, doctor them and keep them. We have Boxer, Lab, Heinz 57, chi chi's, rat terrier, we even fix the animals we find, the stray ones...blue/gold macaw, 2 af. greys, goffin cockatoo so yes, I cry with animals, they are so innocent. but I do thank you for the site with how to put them down. It may come in handy one day. I wont let an animal suffer. Ive even paid vets to put dowm with strays.

Oh my goodness! My power cord (for my laptop) got chewed by my kitten, so I haven't been on all day... my laptop has been a big 'ol paperweight with a dead battery! I finally fooled around with it and got the cord JUST in the right spot, so it's making a connection.

Back to my original "Oh My Goodness"... I've missed all this turmoil that's been happening with Fighter and Patience! I had a couple that seemed to be so sleepy they couldn't keep their eyes open for the first hour or 2 after hatching. I was worried sick. I would have been freaking out if I had ones that couldn't stand.

They just look so pitiful laying there all wet and helpless. I'm like ChooksChick... just get those babies out and love them up

Just kidding. I know that wouldn't help, but snuggling anything seems like it would make it all better

I hope there's good news by morning (for both 2txmedics and ChooksChick)!

I'm gonna check the brooder and go to bed

PS. 2txmedics... I think I would calibrate that hygrometer before the next hatch. I have a walmart one that reads 7% low. I wonder if yours might be off too... perhaps it reads higher and that's why you're having the sticking problem even in the high 60s. It might be worth a try

...yeah...that's me, too!!

We even pulled over on the highway 8 hours from home on a Sunday evening to save a kitten that had been hit, and called all over this strange town until we found a vet (at a family barbecue) and he met us at his office where we gave him a check to help the kitten before we drove away...My husband is very patient and loves me despite all my madness.

I've just doctored a hen through a broken pelvis and have a roo that just got his prosthetic lower beak off (I have to hand feed him 3-4 times daily).

Ahem...God made us with a REALLY healthy empathy bone, right??

So, today I wake up to see the pip from last night has made the hole a bit bigger, but she's just hanging out...so I picked a bit to investigate- the membrane no longer has blood flowing in it, so I wet it and have left her to fight the stickiness...I fear she's going to need a lot of help, as she's pretty sticky.

well checked on Fighter and Patience...Fighter...

up and jumping around...pipping like crazy...still looks bald, thought maybe he is still sticky so I got a warm wash cloth and gently rubbed him ....he had the attitude like man, I just got dry and it took me 4hrs!!!! Gave him vitamins via an IV Cath...took the needle out, being a medic I have access to those things....so Im using just the cath, what stays in your veins when we start IVs its soft and small. They both took it very good.

Now, Patience...*heavy sigh*...still not up from the bottom of the bator...scrooting aroud alot and pipping here and there..did the wash cloth again, thinking maybe still had gunk on him...but I noticed he cant pick his head up straight, stays to the side laying...remember he had it stuck with gunk to the side, and then his little legs were also stuck to the body afterwards....well Im not too sure it will fix....so I "might" have to put him down...I cant see him surviving a healthy life like that....

Unless you have any other ideas that might work. I did give them both vitamins...and gonna see how our day goes.
