I have used the little mason jar types with the metal pans on the bottom most feed stores sell and rabbit feeders. I put the rabbit feeders up high enough they can just grab a bite but not dig in it. The problem is they waste so much food! Does anyone have a feeder that stops the waste?

What about...taking a large potato salad tub (8"diameter), or other such plastic tub, and cutting out ping pong ball sized holes about 1 1/2 " off the bottom around it (6-8) and putting the food in? If you train the chicks to go to that spot for food, and then maybe put food to just below the opening, or try putting their beaks in there...so they can see it...might just work. You can then prop it up when the chicks get taller with 1/2 a brick or something...just a thought! You could make it so you can enlarge the holes as the chicks get bigger and need more head space!

I thought of this idea from an idea someone had for a chicken waterer using a 5 gallon bucket and some holes around it so they can reach in, but not walk in the water... I'm going to try out the Chicken Nipple water system, like the idea of no drips/water mess in the coop.

Just make sure they know how to use it before you walk away...
