anybody have rouen's?

My Rouen drake must be small then because he tops out at about 8 lbs. But my Silver Appleyards, oh yeah.. they're big suckers. Fat, heavy bodied comical ducks. And they lay huge eggs too. I love the girls, but my drake, Spidey... he is a BEAUTY. I haven't taken any pics of them since last spring before they had all their colors and patterns. I am so lazy when it comes to taking pics. My pekins are some of my favorites though. 6 of the famous Clarksburg Quackers. ( Search the forum for the really cool story) And I just got 4 beeeeeautiful runners from another forum member.... and I have some French Toulouse Geese from Metzer's coming in the spring... It's an addiction I tell ya. Look at my signature.... I have a few ducks.

But the Geese are it. I swear.

NOOOOOOOOOO....don't talk to me about geese or I'll have a 5 page essay from my son on why we should have "a couple"! That's how we ended up with ducks!

Oh come on... you know you have to have at least a couple.

wow ! how pretty! thanks for the photos, now that i see... it does appear they are a bit on the big side. i cant seem to find anybody that has appleyards. do they go by another name?

I've got a rouen pair because I too was under the impression they were small...they're not. Got mine from Metzer. There're at lease twice the size of a mallard. Mine aren't friendly either. That not even all that entertaining! I prefer the runners. They're tall but light, can't fly and are HIGHLY entertaining. I've had one call mallard mix and she was, by far, my favorite. Friendly and petitie, she would come in at night and sit on our shoulders while we watched TV. She could fly but never flew more than a few feet and that was only when my drake rouen was chasing after her. He's definitley a bossy one. The female roeun was the last female to lay and she's inconsistent. She's also never attempted to sit a nest. She'll lay her eggs in or near the nest of the others so they can sit it for her!

I would not get rouen's again!

I have three rouen hens. They are double the size of a mallard about the size of my WH- I would say they are just slightly smaller than the WH and smaller than my Jumbo Pekins. I don't do anything differently with them verses the other breeds. I am enjoying them even if they weren't what I was looking for.

I have a Roen drake, Ringo. He pals around our Pekin, May. He is a pretty sturdy guy. Reminds me of a tank.

Mine LOVE to fly- They fly the length of the barn and if something spooks them they fly back again. A bit daunting to have them fly straight at you but I love the challenge of catching one mid-air

Have yet to let them outside once they started flying. But I think the rest of the ducks are a bit jealous as I have caught a few WH trying to fly they get about one inch off the ground... And I have found quite a few testing those wings. We did have an enclosed run where one got stuck on the netting and I had to rescue it.

For what it is worth I am loving them because of their flying antics.
