I have one! I'm trying to decide if I should break her, or get her a few eggs. She's been going for about 5 days now, and seems very committed.

She's my second broody this winter. I'm not sure what I'm doing right or wrong to "make" broodies.

I have some great eggs coming in two weeks, but I'm leery of giving them to a first time mother.

I vote to give her eggs. It's close enough to spring, right?

(but then I'm a chicken-a-holic)

I think I'm going to try. It is close enough to spring, though this blizzard that is upon us is making me have doubts. I had a broody Marans about 6 weeks ago and I decided that was too early.

We usually get about 4 inches of snow per winter, and after today, we will have had about 6 feet. The chickens are not amused.

Now, what eggs do I need... hmmmm...

You need some more Ameraucana's so you can cross with Julie's silkie feathered ameraucana's.

I'm an enabler, aren't I?

Oh, if had to guess, THOSE eggs will be in the incubator with some nice B/B/S Ameraucanas too.... And maybe some Marans to someday makes some silkied Olive Eggers...

I think I'm going to break her after all. She feels a little thin, and I'm just not sure it's the right season for motherhood. At this rate, I'll have another broody in a week or two...

I have two BRs and they have a very strong instinct for broodiness, (BTW my 2 are 5 years old and going strong) usually I see them start around late spring into summer that said, they make for very good hen moms. If you want more chicks and have eggs for her to sit on go for it.
