Anybody in the Rochester NY area processing chickens?

The processing shop is in Alliance Oh, it is B&P Poultry.

Hey John--Spoke with them yesterday and they are closed! I asked "Closed for the season?" and the gentleman said "No, closed forever." I wonder what happened?

Thanks again,

Kelly

Hi,
I don't know if one must be licensed to process birds but I'd be willing to do it for anyone who needs it done. I'm a wildlife rehabilitator and not really squeamish and would accept in return whatever amount that someone would think would be fair or a bird or birds for myself. I live in Putnam County which is a bit of a drive but if anyone needs the deed done...you can contact me.

Kelly, don't know why but if I had to guess it would probably be not enough business. Not many poultry ranches around here. If I find anyone else I will let folks know. I was really hoping they would pan out. John

Hi Suzy--Thanks but you are a bit far!

John--Are you now looking for a processor? I have the name of Lehman's Poultry and Harstine Meats in Columbiana County and Knox County Historical Farm in Mt. Vernon. The first two would be alot closer than Mt. Vernon for me. I will call each of these next week.

Kelly, a drive to those county's would be to far considering the price of gas. I would be better finding a adoptive home for them. I have found a couple of butchers in northern Portage county I am going to call the first of the week. If I had 50 or so birds it might be worth the trip. With just a few I guess I will just have to do the deed. John

Hi John--I really don't mind doing the dirty work. I just don't want to do it the first time without someone there that has done it before and I don't have the set up to do it. I don't want to get a basic "setup" setup until I have done this at least one time and know I would do it again. Maybe the grocery store chicken isn't looking so bad......
