Other than the "lump" on her "cheek" this hamburg hen is eating/laying fine. She isn't raspy or having difficulty breathing and there aren't any other symptoms. Should I be worried?? Should I be treating her with something? If I should be treating her, what should I treat her with?? Thanks so much for the advice

almost like a nasty zit....wasn't any warmer than the comb..and like I said, no other symptoms

Isn't that like an ear infection or sinus infection? You'd better pursue that angle and the appropriate antibiotics.

II was kind of thinking the same thing, I am going to start her on something, but what antibiotic should I use with her? I know we've used teramyacin before..just wonder if that would work for this??

Ouch. Looks like it hurts. It does kind of look like an abcess. I would give her some type of antiboitic. I am not really sure what kind. I know there are others on here that really do know what type to give her and how much. Hope you get the help you seek soon. Hope she gets better soon also.

If you are going to approach this as an abcess then peniciliin injections would be the best antibiotic to use. And yes it needs to be treated ASAP. For large fowl - 1/2cc and because penicillin is very thick you HAVE to use an 18guage or higher needle. You can get both items at the feed store. Inject in the meaty breast area (think of what a cooked chicken breast looks like) ONCE a day. Push the plunger down SLOWLY otherwise you will pop off the needle. Change sides everyday and gently massage the injection site afterwards to help disperse the meds. You can use peniclllin for how ever long it takes to get that "nasty" to go away... Hope that helps.
