I just got back from the feed store where I met some very sweet chickens that I fell in love with. My husband says they would be bait for predators for my goats, but I wouldn't keep them near the goats because the goats would bother the coop. I just need a small thing and I only want a few chickens for eggs.

I told my mom she should get her husband to build coops & sell them. He's a contractor and did a super cute little two story one for her three. I doubt he'll want to, but I'll ask!

Oh - they live in Folsom. Not the prison.

There's a couple people on craigslist selling them built to order one is listed as being in Auburn.

What kind of chicks did you see? I have some EE's and turkens for sale in Auburn. Were you at Echo Valley?

I live in Grass Valley - actually half way between Auburn/Grass Valley. Ridge Feed in Grass Valley has a nice pre-built coop for sale; don't remember how much. You might also check Echo Valley - I thought I saw a similar one as I drove by there the other day. If you or your hubby are handy (and since you have goats I imagine you are), there are lots of plans on here, too. Some are really fancy, but other are really simple. Good luck convincing hubby. Tell him farm-raised eggs have less cholestrol than store-bought. Maybe that will help

Wow, I had no idea there were so many people close to us! Yes, I was at Echo Valley. I also need to check our zoning too because the neighbors seem to think I'm over my limit for goats; we get 6 per acre and I have 5 regular sized goats and 3 pygmy size and the pygmies don't go in the goat category, they go in the household pet category, so if my 7 dogs don't go in the household pet category and neither do the chickens...I'm going to try getting some if I can talk my husband into it.
