Anybody tried this solar waterer?

Might be worth the money if it works well...I've never used it but I've been looking for something like that myself! If you get a hold of anyone that knows, let us know...I'm going to have to find something before it starts to get cold!

Supposedly it's not just an insulated bowl, it has some kind of solar panel on top to keep it from freezing. If it works and I don't have to worry about frozen water, it would be worth it to me...

Really? Nobody???? Maybe that means something...

I see a problem with put it in the "Winter sun" I'm in NY and we sure do not get any winter sun....or its very rarely...I can't see the girls wanting to go out into the run to get water in the winter....and the darn thing is not going to get any solar power in the coop that's for sure.

my 2 cents

I think the "solar" part is that it is black and when put in the sun will absorb heat. You have to "simply fill with warm water put out in the winter sun" which makes me think it is a well insulated container with a top you can fill with warm water. Sounds like a good idea but I don't think it has a solar panel or heater.

I am doubtful it would work well for me. In the winter we don't get enough sun to charge things up, especially since I will have a lot of cover out for the chickens. Plus I believe it said it works over 20 degrees, not that cold to me.

I use large, shallow water bowls for my rabbits. On super cold nights I heat up one of the snuggle safe heat discs and put them in the water. Then I put a little moving toy or something in to agitate the water enough to keep it from freezing over.
