Anybody tried this solar waterer?

For the same price you can get a pad heater for a 5 gallon metal waterer.

What wouldn't work for me is it says if you have 6-10 chicken you may need two... I'd need at least 20 of them sitting around then!

Plus where it only "works" for up to 20 degrees... here that's like a spring day in the middle of winter!

I was thinking of trying the snuggle safe disc under my 1 gallon waterer in my new bantam tractor. I am here to change the water if need be, but it looks about the right size to put under & I thought it might keep it ice free longer. I also thought of making an insulating jacket (maybe out of reflex insulation) & covering it with rip strength nylon and putting it over the top of the waterer. I have a water heater in my big coop & I can run a cord to the tractor if it gets really bad, but would rather not. Never asked if anyone else used the disc at all. The 500+ pound tractor actually "moved" today as DH put on the wheels. Now we have to put up the hardware cloth & get the almost 7 week olds out on the grass! Have been real busy, but will post pictures soon. Dh out did himself!

These are all very good points... Maybe it isn't really solar "powered" but just insulated. I was wondering about the 20 degrees too, since it's colder than that in CT also.

Great idea about the snuggle safe sitting under a rubber pan. Is the snuggle safe really warm enough to heat the water through the rubber? They look like such a convenient, cord-free way to provide a little extra heat. (No power in our coop.)

Thanks everyone for saving me a bunch of $$$... if I do try it, I will absolutely let you know!!!
