I have Marans, and I'm toying with the idea of getting an old overhead projector for candling the eggs so I can see more than just an air cell. I currently just use a very high-tech

flashlight with a toilet paper roll taped to the end to focus the light. With that at least I can find hairline cracks or tell which ones have developed and which are clear, but really no details whatsoever as far as veins, etc. With the overhead projector, I'm wondering how you would focus the light so you're not lighting up the whole room. Who uses this method and how do you do it?

I use one. I made a cone out of thick paper because the light is bigger then the egg. It still let some light through, so I covered it with duct-tape!

You have to be careful to candle very quickly though because it gives off so much heat you dont want to cook them.
