We have two leopard geckos. they are roughly 4 years old. We found they only occasionally like crickets, we would buy 12 and let them loose, sometimes they will eat 4 right in a row and other times the crickets are in there for days and just die. We have meal worms dusted in the mineral/vitamin dust in there all the time and that is what they eat. Only rarely will we see them out eating, mostly late evening. We had ours on the bark style substrate for the first 3 years and just switched to sand and it works great. I use a sand scoop to scoop out the droppings, I only do it like once a month but I could not do that with the bark. My girl even lays eggs, we tried incubating them but could not. They are so funny. Do all you guys' wingle the tip of their tail just prior to pouncing at "prey"? I always thought this was soooo funny.
