I like the hams that come with a powder packet thing, I think it's brown sugar. A lot of those premade glazes are kinda weird.

They really are. I normally just cook the ham plain. I like using the leftovers to make a cheesy ham and potato casserole.

My grandmother gave me a church cook book once. It was jam packed with bizarre recipes. At least 3 had squirrels. And more butter and mayo than any human should eat in a lifetime.

My son cooks great squirrel... I'm thinking he might not be attending church on a regular basis lately.

I've requested that he no longer sends pictures of the recipes.

Ohhhhh I disagree with that. Chicken and waffles, honey baked ham, teriyaki anything I love all these things

And that's why potluck meals can be so much fun (or hazardous)!

Squirrel can be a pain to cook, depending on what you're doing with it. That said, squirrel chili is a favorite around here.

Shredded is where it’s at! That’s how they do it in Utah. Never had it any other way. Do the cubed and scalloped still have corn flakes on top?

I probably have had shredded, then. It's just been such a long time. (They take more work, I'm guessing, so people stopped making them?)

I like shredded potatoes (like for hash browns) but scalloped do well for funeral potatoes
It just seemed like suddenly, one year, EVERYBODY only did cubed potatoes and it never went away.
Hash browns? Suddenly they're all cubed, not shredded. It's madness.

I'm not sure I ever tried any of the topped ones. (Certain tastes and textures just aren't pleasant. Especially if it's been sitting getting soggy.)
Every family seems to have their own version of how it should be. And there were always at least 3 versions at every event.

I grew up on the poor side, and Mom really knew how to budget.
Wednesday was navy beans and hamhocks, Thursdays were leftovers from Wednesday.
I would add ketchup... I still love the dish, but can't stand ketchup
