Anyone buy bulk/wholesale feed?

Are you talking bags?

I get it delivered from the local feed mill every two weeks... 17% organic layer ration ran me about $440 a ton for the last batch. They auger it from the feed truck into our feed bin.

If you can find a co-op in your area, that would be the best way to buy your feed. I get a 50 lb bag of organic feed about every 2 months. My share of the shipping is just $4.00. Start a new post to see if there is someone that could help you find a co-op in your area.
Hope this helps.

I used to buy it in bulk and would like to again, but the mill that used to mix it for me went out of business. They'd custom mix in lots as small as five hundred pounds which came out to two plastic drums. I could feed all of that before the last of it would spoil. I bought two drums from them originally then would simply swap back to them for two full drums when I went to pick up my feed.

If I were buying it by the ton I'd have to have it delivered because that would be several trips in my little truck. I couldn't use that much though before the last of it went over.

If you buy in a large enough quantity your local feed store will probably deliver it for you, but there will likely be a delivery charge though some will deliver it free if you get over a certain amount. You'd have to check with your local feed dealers for particulars.

How long the feed will keep depends on your climate and the time of year. Going into fall I could probably buy and use a ton of feed before it went bad, but in the summer I'd hesitate buying more than three months worth of feed. A cooler and/or drier climate would be able to get a longer storage life.

.....Alan.
