Anyone crossed Whiting true blues with anything?

I have my silver cookoo maran rooster in with 2 WTB hens right now, hoping for some olive eggers

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that a blue layer with a dark brown layer will give you a lighter olive layer, first generation. If you breed the first generation back to a dark brown layer you should get a darker olive egger. The WTB is not a breed so I don't know exactly how it will all turn out. I'm currently trying to breed the "Icecream Bars" to get the spearmint colored eggs and I know they don't breed true on 2nd generations. I also have WTB's, but too young to breed, yet. Let us know how yours turn out!

I'm hatching out WTB and in the past I've had trouble hatching any colored eggs like Easter eggers and I was just wondering if it's something I do wrong or is it just difficult to have a good hatch do to the coloring? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I might add that I hatchout other thing just fine. Lock down on this WTB is this Friday, keeping my figures crossed. :)

Just curious how the hatch went for you, if you don't mind updating. Too new to the WTB to comment on problems with hatching colored eggs. The only thing I have heard about for fatal genes are the problems with the tufting gene when there are two copies of the tufting gene it is lethal. Have never raised Araucanas (just that fatal gene possibility scared me!). Have never had any problems with the Ameraucanas with broody hen or incubator so far. Bought hatching eggs for Isbars and Cream Legbars with very low hatch rates, but too many variables with handling and such to know reason for that. Out of 24 eggs for the CL only got 6 chicks- 2 different incubations- 2 with 1st dozen and 4 with 2nd dozen. Isbars hatched 6 out of 18 eggs. How was your hatch rate? Pix of your new brood would be great!

I just got two 4 week whitings (man they're homely looking at this stage and after shipping). I'm going to put in with my cream legbar rooster. I'll keep you posted to see what hatches out in a few months.

Do y'all have any updates? Pics?

My legbar hatches are also on the lower side. My rooster is a picky breeder and only wants to breed with one buff Orpington hen :(

How are your whitings doing in comparison to the other breeds?

I hope you don't mind if I join in here as I have a trio of WTB from this year =)

I thought my favorite WTB pullet took off (no evidence of predators and we really only have one- our dog) and suddenly today she reappeared. Everyone was free ranged full time until this week when we put the coop together. So we began hunting for a nest, and I finally remembered a while back I had seen her in a secluded area. Well, sure enough we found her inbetween two 5ft fences nice and settled. I will wait until dark to try and see what is under her and how far along the eggs are. We have 4 possible fathers here: a red mutt I never identified (hatchery freebie) an EE roo, a WTB roo, or a Black Australorp (who is bottom of totem pole and doesn't get much action at all). I am thinking we should get a variation of green or blue eggs from any pullets she might hatch so I am excited.
