Anyone do bonsai?

Deb, Mom went through the same plant experience when we moved from Miami to TN. She had a HUGE Staghorn that someone offered her $100 for (1975) but she loved that plant too much to sell. And she had lots of other plants & ferns, enough to fill a small trailer for the move. She lost almost all of them due to cold winters and low humidity. She cried!!

In AZ there are Mesquite trees & Cottonwood trees. You could try a couple of those as bonsai. They're pretty when they bloom.
Mesquite trees are a trash plant in the desert but I bet they could look pretty when pruned. They are 'nursery' trees for Saguaro cactus in the desert as well. If I were living in AZ I would grow a mini cactus garden. Some varieties of cactus are quite pretty!

Cottonwood trees in the wild are really suffering from the drought. So planting those in your yard and taking care of them would be a nice thing to do, even if they don't work for bonsai.

Pretty close to there. Can't remember the exact address. Went to Colonial Drive Elem., and saw the Serpentarium ANY TIME we drove somewhere. Loved that place!

We went to the serpentarium when I was a kid it was great. It seems like a hundred years ago

For me it was about 25-30 years ago. Yikes!
I heard they tore down the building, which is sad. I loved looking at it as we drove by.

I loved living in Miami. Feild trips to the Everglades or Serpentarium. Riding my bike to school.

It was fun back then I was born in 59 so it was a while ago. We moved up to N. Fl. 5 years ago and I never want to go back not even for a visit I love the wide open spaces too much.

Hi Gardener those are some nice trees, I would love to get out to the NW. some time so many plants thrive in that environment. you guys have so many things we can't even think about growing in the SE.
The only problem I would have is if it rains more than 2 days I get stir crazy I can't stand staying inside.
I found a timber bamboo yesterday that I did'nt pot up it is still in a 1gl. pot about 2ft the ones that I potted are in 25gl. pots and 10ft. I'm thinking it might make a nice bonsai the leaves are a little big but if I pull them off will the new ones come in smaller like on a maple?
