Day 26 from setting eggs look what i got

a pip and zip and its going to hatch today i could tell it was rocking and rolling it was almost there before i left for work i am so happy i hope she makes it

Day 20 here, with 6 chicks hatched, and 5 more pipped so far. ONE hatched yesterday, all by itself, a good 24 hours ahead of everyone else. I'll have to name it "Early."

Well, I hate to admit it even to myself, but I blew it. On the rare poultry group that I belong to, they stressed over and over about not opening the bator for ANY reason once you stop turning them at 18 days until ALL the chicks have hatched.
Well, since many of my friends said that they had hatched successfully and had opened the bator to take out dry chicks etc I figured it was OK.
I watched the humidity closely and the temp too.
Tonight I just knew that the last five eggs were gone, especially since the one that was cheeping last night was quiet, not a peep all day.
I cracked one and found a fully developed dead chick. Opened another, same thing. To make a long story short, my chicks were hatching fine until I took the two day olds out of the bator and had none hatch after that. All five were dead tonight.
I guess the next time I will listen to the experts and leave those chicks in the bator until every last one is hatched. I don't really understand it but it had a disastrous effect on my chicks.

two more weeks to next hatch which I will leave alone while they are hatching......

same thing i did but i had to take the dried chicks out cuz they were pecking holes in the other eggs and just knocking them around i lost more then half my batch cuz i opened the bator but i now know for next time

Well, I did know and should have done as I was told. The problem is that when you have eggs that you have set over a period of a few days, the first ones to hatch have to stay in the bator too long. I think that is why some folks have a hatcher that they put the eggs in the last three days before the hatch and then leave them alone.
Then the incubated ones can stay until they are ready to go into the hatcher.
Of course your timing has to be just perfect. Maybe the trick is not to set your eggs until they are all ready to go even if you have to hold some over for a day or two.

i set mine all the same day but i had atleast 1 chick hatch a day for 8 strait days i cant leave chicks in for 8 days some would be more then a week old with no food or water they must be crazy lol it all has to do with the temp and humidity i didnt know it played that big of a factor but i guess it did

I don't see how it could make such a huge difference to have a few minutes of lower humidity. Here's my first hatch!

She was sandwiched in between the carton of chicken eggs, and the still-turning duck eggs, so I took her out. Shortly thereafter, the humidity was back up to 60-70% I heard some quiet chipping away on at least one egg before I went to work this evening, so I'm pretty sure I will have at least another pip when I get home!

I wonder if the difference could be that the humidity stayed lower for longer in a still-air incubator?
