I just realized I've been keeping my backyard flock for almost eleven years and the joy has still not worn off. It's hard to articulate why it is such a pleasure but I tried:

Yup, I am thankful every day. Every day I collect the most beautiful eggs, I'm greeted by friendly, happy, curious hens and one super rooster. Everyday I am thankful for my teenage weird looking chickens whose feathers are not quite in, and TODAY, I am thankful for my fuzzy chicks that were hatched yesterday as well!! Joy!!!:love:love

@bawkbawkbawk - love your pic!!! So cute!

Yeah, last night I was having dinner with my dh (I had spent a lovely day outside building a new chicken tractor for some of my grow-out cockerels, having occasional visits from the more curious birds) and I said, "This is how I want to spend my retirement - it's one of the best hobbies because it requires physical, as well as mental energy output. Every day is different with the birds and all their social dynamics. And chicks??? THE cutest things on the planet!"
He nods... "Yes, dear."

That's a flock of happy chickens on a beautiful piece of land. Thanks for sharing!

Love your pic, too!

I’ve had mine for two years this past March 26th, and I’ve loved them every minute, cherish the time I have with them, and they are worth more than everything on the entire earth to me.
