Anyone else get annoyed when the people around you are constantly on the cell phone?

I have a smartphone that I use daily and I think games are fun, but some people take it way too far. My sister can sit for hours doing nothing but playing on her phone. It drives me insane. There's nothing wrong with playing games and texting, but there is no excuse for sitting all day and doing nothing! I wish she would want to do something outside with the chickens or spend time with her family, but that iPod is always attached to her face.
I can't stand it when my siblings sit on their electronics all day. I wish they would get up off their butts and do something with their lives. Someday I hope they realize that they should've done something better with their lives when they had the chance. My brother has actually gone a whole day without doing anything but playing on the computer. I try not to say anything rude but sometimes I just lose it!

Anyway, sorry for ranting. I have nothing against people who play games, but my siblings do too much of it.

I think just as bad is people who always have there TV on when people are over. I have some relatives who always have the tv on. You try to visit and they are talking then zone out. Before we even bought are house I told my husband we would NOT have a tv in any main room. We have one tv, no cable, or anything. We don't even get local channels. People seem just as addicted to TV as they are to there phones. I would rather have my kid outside in the garden or helping my husband build are duck house... which he does very well. Can't stand going to someone's house and they are zoned into the tv and it's kind of creepy seeing a small child zoned into a TV set.

TV is one of the main things I will live without. I'm 18 and currently live at home still, and I rarely watch tv. When I do it's usually to watch a baseball game or something. I got a tv in my bedroom that hasn't even been plugged in for a few years. I typically spend my free time doing some kind of outside/mechanic work or spending time with people, and when I'm inside I typically rest, research stuff on the internet, or listen to music. On my down time I will also text if I need to, but it's only on my down time. But anyway, when I have my own house, I believe I can live without AC/ central heat (I would use a wood stove), TV, unnecessary living space, and a lot of useless luxuries. Of course I say that now, but I'm sure a lot of guys say that before they meet the boss (wife).

And as far as raising kids go, I want my kids to be raised as naturally as possible. I would never consider kids until I'm completely settled and I can raise them the way I want. I was raised by parents who would just buy me whatever I wanted or sit me in front of a tv to get me to shut up, and when we did stuff together, it was typically what my parents preferred. Somehow I became a simple nature loving man, but my brothers didn't turn out too bright... My kids wouldn't have access to tv or video games and they would do things outside for fun, and I would try to be with them as much as possible.

This was all completely off topic, but I was just feeling this haha

Well that all sounds pretty bright thinking to me! I have a home daycare and all my parents love that no tv is available for the kids to watch. My son gets to watch a movie here and there. Mostly if he is sick or as a very very special treat, but he loves hiking and being outside or playing games. People always comment on his vocabulary and how observant he is, I just think I talk to him and interact with him all the time. These days a tv or phone is a kids interaction so they don't learn anything but being on a phone. There is plenty to do without a phone or tv

If you think visiting relatives with the TV on is bad, try being their Home Health nurse

I'm in the home for 30-45 minutes as a rule, and in that time I have a lot of things to do. The first 10 minutes always has to be spent getting the stupid dog to quit yapping, and the rest of the time fighting for attention over the tv. When I got more confident I started asking folks to turn it off, but sometimes the spouse point-blank refused! And I'm not talking the Superbowl or anything, but yet another episode of Judge Judy.

I was training a new nurse who had been a paramedic for 14 years, and was griping about fighting the tv. She grinned and told me as a medic, she'd just unplug the darn thing to get her work done

. If they were worried about the TV being unplugged, they sure didn't need an ambulance!

It's funny because ever since I started this thread I notice it so much more easily now, and it obviously annoys me. Today I was at work (I work at a produce market) and I noticed a few different instances of this. A few times I saw girls shopping with their mothers and pushing the shopping cart with phone in hands and vision on phone; paying no attention to their mother and little attention to where they're even going going. Come on! Somehing I also see on occasion is people on the cellphone the whole time they're shopping, this is actually common with old people.

Also, just last night on my down time I was texting my friends, which is the only time I really text. Then I realized that we are all sitting home not doing anything texting each other. Then I thought why are we texting each other instead of hanging out and talking?

Yes. I'm almost to the point of chucking my cell phone. The only thing stopping me is the knowledge that I do need a phone for emergencies. I hate talking on the phone. I'm thinking people actually led better, happier, and healthier lives before technology.
