Anyone else have a duck that prefers to live in the house?

At night they're "supposed" to sleep in their big old crate but they spend the first few hours with my son who always has an old towel or blanket under them. Whoever goes to bed last (me or the husband) gets the chore of putting the ducks away and taking the nasty towel to the laundry room. Come morning the boy has to clean out the crate. Poop everywhere!

They don't have their diapers yet. They're being made. During the day our floors are covered in old sheets. We do more laundry for the ducks than we do for ourselves. And there is always a rouge poop that escapes somehow and I always seem to find it with my clean socks.

Feathers. Feathers everywhere. I'm half tempted to start making pillows. They come out of every nook and cranny. And have I mentioned the poop?

If it's rainy, they spend all day indoors. They're too prissy to go outside. And then there is poop. And feathers. That's when we break out the baby toys. I no longer have babies in the house but those bright, light up musical toys make them happy. Buck spent over an hour with a fake plastic cell phone the other day. And then there was poop. With feathers.

Basically, it's like have 100 naked, starving, non potty trained toddlers in the house. I look forward to nap time. And have I mentioned the feathers? And poop?

Sorry but that is to funny and cute at the same time. I have a little one that would prefer for me to hold her (or him not sure yet) all the time. I had to bring her home with me this past Monday because my boyfriend was going to be out of town and she could not be with the bigger ducks because they would kill her (they almost did twice) because she was very tiny (like 1/2 the size of the others that came in that day at Orschelns, but anyways she sat on my lap for most of the day, if I would walk out of my office or got out of her eye sight she would squawk so loud, just like a toddler. I did end up getting her a couple of friends Monday after work, well just one at first then went back and got two more. She will play with them some, but if I put my hand in the pen to pick her up she doesn't run or try to get away, she actually wants to crawl up my shirt to my neck. Never thought a duck would be like that, but I have to admit I love the snuggles just as much as she does.

I had no idea ducks would be so friendly, even either! It's been hard not buying more but I have to refrain! Our boys loved to be on our shoulders as babies. We called them hood ducks because their favorite place to be was in your hood. Now they're way too big for that. Sounds like you have a new BFF! They're a blast!

That is awesome that there are more people out there with house ducks! We have one duck that lives in our house here and you can tell that she is incredibly happy! We raised her from the beginning and she grew up with our dog most of the time. Because we rent and have a very hyper breed of dog (Australian Cattle dog), we have to keep him in a kennel when we're gone. We keep the duck's cage right next to the kennel so they're always together if we're gone. When we're all home, P loves to come out and hang around all of us. Her favorite hobby though is pretending to be a dog. She plays with Rowdy just like a dog would, plays with the dog toys, and even quacks in a similar manner how dogs bark. I really should post some pics or a video someday when I'm not browsing BYC at work because she doesn't act like a duck at all.
I kinda feel bad sometimes because it seems like she has completely forgotten that she's a duck. When it's bathtime, she'll just relax and stay in one spot without making much noise. Even after awhile in the tub, the water will be crystal clear with almost no poop nor feathers. She seems to groom herself with her water instead of utilizing her bath. Still, she seems really happy without another duck inside. We have introduced her to some of the other ducks around her age, even ones born on the same day, and she doesn't seem to care about them at all. She'd rather follow the dog or us around instead of being around other birds. I took her outside the other day and she stood by my side the entire time no matter what I did and she should no fear!
I gotta say, raising a duck inside have been a much more joyous adventure than we initially thought. It still amazes me that a lot of places refuse to sell just one duck by themselves. If raised right, they can grow up to be very happy and possibly never experience the depression that seems to be associated with raising lone ducks. All the need is just a little TLC!:celebrate

Knowing what I know now about them and just experiencing the first couple of weeks with these two I could never imagine having them be outside ducks.
They are so attentive and love love ❤️
Yes pics are a must ;)
It's sweet that your baby made it by itself
I don't doubt given the chance and the right person mine would have been fine separately but since they have always been together I can't even hold daisy without daffy being like wait where'd she go
The only thing about having the two is it's a lot of work love work but a lot of work
But we don't have children so it kinda works with the whole mess needy thing ;)
I worry about mating season I don't want him to be too rough with her but other than that I think they love each other
They have outgrown my hands though I find myself needing a kangaroo pouch or something to carry the two of them together :)
Anyway all good things so far
So happy y'all understand cuz my life people DID NOT! And it made me second guess getting them in the first place.
Now I'm like if you get to keep your cat I get to keep my ducks
