My 4 year old buff laced polish hen has a spur, pretty good size. She doesn't lay any more, but neither do her 2 "sisters". She doesn't crow or act roostery, and she didn't always have the spur. Anybody else have this occur in thier flock?

Yep, I have a buttercup mix with good size spurs. She's small, but lays the largest eggs of my flock. She is the most protective of the small group I have. Whenever I add a new bird, she's the first one to peck and tell the newbie who the boss is. When I brought home a turkey that was at least 4 times her size, she didn't back down at all - just had to jump pretty high to give him his greeting peck! It was pretty hilarious. The turkey has been scared of her ever since.

Note: That's actually her in the avatar pic, during one of her broody spells.

Oh, good - Lots of you have hens with spurs. I was afraid she had a hormonal problem. (Even though she acts normal, I wanted to be sure) I'll put a picture up tomorrow - Its a big spur.
