Maybe it’s this breed - none of my other chickens have had such crazy variation, but…

My BCM started laying about 1.5 mos ago. Her first three eggs are in the first pic - dark, darkish, light with speckles? Since then, they’re barely darker than my BR or BuffO…is that normal for a BCM?

This is how chicken math gets you. I just wanted a dark dark chocolate egg in the mix and if hers is a dark tan-ish, then I’ll have to get a second one. 😬

I've had the same thing happen. It's like she ran out of printer toner over time. She became broody this past spring, and stopped laying. After her molt, this summer she began to lay again. Her eggs were back to dark chocolate brown, but she's already started to lay dark brown with speckles. I called Meyer and they said some breeds with highly pigment eggshells - such as BCMs lighten over the season and will darken back up after the chicken molts each year.
I've purchased all my chickens at Meyer and have been extremely happy with each breed I've received.

Mine started with the dark color again…new layer problems I guess?
