My hens are loud. Really loud. Especially in the mornings, when people are trying to sleep. I think that they have gotten quite spoiled, and think that they can be let out whenever they want. I try to resist, but then they just keep squwaking, and I can't have the neighbors call the cops. That would not be good. I also can't get rid of my chickens, because, well, I just can't. You guys can relate. So, I need a solution. Fast. I have considered free ranging, but I can't be at home all day (unfortunately), and the issue is that I would have to leave the coop door open, and if I did, the squirrels and grackles would get into the coop and eat all the feed and to solve that, I would have to have an outside feeder that is squirrel-proof, and those are like 200 bucks and-arrrrggg.
If anybody out there has some genius way to train your chickens to shut up on command, or a DIY squirrel-proof feeder, I would greatly appreciate that. I might even send you a telepathic hug.
