Ok I just bought my THIRD incubator. I was all excited when it arrived but it’s literally the exact same incubator I already have two of. I cleaned out our shed and am turning it into a coop for serama chickens. I check Craigslist every weekend to see if there are any cool birds up for sale. Anyone else feel like they might have a problem?😂

I'm up to 7 incubators. I bought a few (2-3) of the cheap carousel style ones, then moved on to 2 large bin styles, now I've upgraded to 2 of the MATICOOPX (one holds 20 eggs, the other holds 30).

I keep the smaller ones around in case I want to do a small hatch from one pullet, or separate chicks by breed. That's all since last January . . . so I don't think you have a problem, except you might need more incubators.

I mentioned to a friend I was looking for a cabinet style incubator and he kindly reminded me I don't have enough yard space to support those kinds of numbers. Reality bites:lol:

I mean, my hens are the incubators so

They constantly run, disappear when I'm trying to find them, and some of them just start wanting to incubate without warning

Which is the real problem here?
I suppose if you have to build a coop for your plug-in incubators, then that's when you have a problem

The only reason I haven't bought a couple incubators is because I know somebody who has a few I could borrow, one being an old cabinet style that'll hatch about 100 I think?

I have 5 BO pullets and adding a few more. I'm hoping they'll go broody this spring, but we'll see.

Wow, seven incubators! My thoughts process was I need one for hatching and one for babies drying, and then I thought one for hatching was not enough so I bought I third. 🤪 I wanted a cabinet incubator to and then I realized I have no need for a cabinet incubator…yet.😉

I have a lavender EE, BO style, that's proven herself pretty reliable about going broody, and I do have an incubator ... my problem is that I'm maxed out as far as having room for chickens. What I need is a whole 'nother COOP, complete with fences. But DH says no. 😔 ... (so far...)

Each has a different trait I like. The original three carousel ones (holds 12-16 eggs) are small enough that I can run all three in the same space the larger ones take up, they come in handy when I want to separate eggs by hen/breed.

The larger bin styles (holds 20-36 eggs) are good when I want to hatch large numbers at once and they accommodate a small feeder and waterer so the chicks can stay in it a few days if need be. I mostly use the larger ones as temporary brooders if I'm waiting days for eggs to hatch. One of them accepts a 12V battery during a power outage.

I'm sure my family would try to tell me no, but lately I've been making lots of sweet that require eggs, so they're going along for now.
