So we've moved out our chicks from their baby outdoor tractor to their final big home. They are 5-7 weeks old and WAY too huge for even the small tractor we had (it was a tractor for 4-6 full size hens, and truly, really only 3-4) so we've been having to train them to go into their new coop at night -- just 2 nights so far --- just placing them in the side door from the run because they don't know to go UP the ramp to the cozy spot.

The small tractor:

The small tractor had a coop, too -- they learned how to use that in 2 days too. So this is the behavior I'm curious about:

I get up at dawn and open the coop door to let them out. They LOVE it, are all excited and happy and go eat and drink and act all crazy and happy. For about 30 minutes, then they GO BACK TO BED in the coop LOL

Does anyone else's chicks do this?!?!??! They did it in the small tractor and to my utter amazement, they did it this morning in their big new coop!! I am proud of my smart girls (and 2 boys, 13 birds total) learning where their coop was so fast but going back up to bed after waking up cracks me up!!! Is it normal??

Their final tractor and home:

This isn't the final spot, it's just by our house while they are small. Fences will be completed by Thursday and we're deciding where to put this MONSTER of a tractor (almost impossible to move) in it's final spot. But that's another thread.

I don’t think my chickens have ever done that! It must be pretty funny to watch!

IT IS! I just kinda watch from my windows, they aren't far out beyond our porch and then after about another 30-45 minute snooze, they all come down again. Do it every dingydarn day. lol

Our first group of girls went back into the coop every morning for almost a year. We called it their morning meeting and wondered what sort of evil schemes they were discussing
BWAHAHA I love it!! I figured they were just being typical teenagers and sleeping in lolol

So glad I'm not the only one 😂
