Just drove up to the top of Pikes Peak today. That might have been the most scary thing I’ve ever done, was completely unprepared for the total drops! Luckily I wasn’t the one who had to drive, its all fun and games until you reach the tree line. Has anyone else ever done this? Did you find it as scary?

Some pics from the drive.

I have only been up on the cog rail, about 30 years ago. That was really cool. The view from the top is amazing, but also a stark reminder of how wild and untamed that wilderness goes on for so far!

Thank you for the warning. Now I know to decline if driving it ever comes up. (We have lots of family in the springs.) They talk about it but I don’t think any of them want to do it. I imagine it would be tough on ones brakes.

I haven't, but Ken Block has. 😲
Over the years I thought it was neat to look at the webcams and see the weather and views and imagine driving up there. I do have a question for you, though. Did you get any donuts? lol If so, were they as good as folks say? Here's a pretty cool article about them. The webcams from the top are on the same website as the link.

There is a ranger station about halfway down where you stop and they check the temp of your brakes.

Yes and they actually have a mandatory brake check about halfway down!

I seriously can’t believe people RAISE to the top! And we actually did not end up getting any donuts. We planned on getting some but we were pretty stressed about the drive and wanted to get back down so we didn’t stay long.
