Anyone ever cracked an egg to find this?

I have never seen anything like this in all my egg cracking/omelet making years. What the.....? It looks like blood! Came from my RIR's who have been laying for about 6 weeks.

I've had that. Not quite as large, maybe half that length. It was when my girls were first laying and I just assumed it was them sort of breaking in their system.

I tossed it. Probably wouldn't have hurt to eat it but I thought it was gross.

Haven't seen one since. I'll bet this is a one off for you too.

It's okay. It's just a blood spot, very normal esp for new layers. I've heard commercial egg places candle these out so they don't wind up in stores and freak folks out. It's fine to eat, I've eaten many.

That was my next thought was how do the stores keep that from happening. (or not the stores, but you know what I mean)

This site has all kinds of weird egg defects. Your egg looks like it is just a heavy blood spot.
I wouldn't worry about it unless that chicken had many eggs that were similar.

Just scramble it up and give it to the girls for extra protein!

Yep, I got 2 of these out of a carton that I bought at Walmart.....I threw them away....probably wouldn't have hurt me...but just grossed me out...LOL

It's no biggie. I've plenty of them. Once you cook the egg you don't even notice or remember.
