Hello all! One of my hens (Easter Egger, unknown age) consistently lays eggs with a rougher, weaker band of shell in the middle. The egg itself is fine, I just make a habit of eating them quickly.

None of the other hens have this issue, they do have access to oyster shell, and I regularly feed them crushed eggshells as well.

I'll copy a link to the Egg Quality Handbook. You can read about various shell defects. They are not that unusual.

https://www.thepoultrysite.com/publications/egg-quality-handbook

That guide is written more for commercial type operations than us backyard types but you can still get some pretty good information from it. But some of those comments refer to things we just don't do so don't let that bother you.

I can't tell exactly what is going on with your eggs. They are perfectly safe to eat and should store well. I would not hatch from them in case it is inherited. As long as the hen that lays them acts normal I would not be concerned about her. It's just one of those glitches that sometimes happens with living animals.
