So this is a new one for us!

I collected eggs yesterday. Our young pullets have just started laying within the last two weeks or so. I know to expect odd eggs, shell-less, double yolkers, etc, but this is a whole new experience. I'm not really concerned about it, but found it fascinating, and I could only find one thread that discussed a similar incident, but it was ten years old! Posting this to see if anyone might know why this occurs? The only visual difference from another of this pullets eggs is that it appears more porous? But please check out the video to hear it! It sounds like its a ceramic egg or a metal egg, and I compare it to another of her eggs. She is an easter egger named Acorn. Maybe she ate too much oyster shell?

I knew something was different immediately when I collected it, as it sounded different when it clacked up against the other eggs in my hand. Called my husband in to make sure I wasn't going crazy!

Anyone else experience this, or something similar? It is kind of a funny mystery! I haven't opened the egg yet, though I am curious. I will video it when we do finally decide to crack it open! Maybe double shelled? It feels normal otherwise, similar weight and doesn't feel empty. Weird!

That is so weird! What does it sound like banged against something like a spoon or the counter?

Sounds similar when tapped with my fingernail and on the counter, like a metal tinging! I will video it tapped against different things in the next one, before we crack it! Isn't it bizarre?

It is very bizarre, I honestly was expecting it to be someone pranking you or something but that looks very much like a real egg and this isn’t your first flock so I have no clue what is causing this. It is very interesting though

Thats crazy, wonder what it looks like inside and the shell when cracked.

and it reminded me of this from Hobbit lol

A box without hinges, key, or lid, Yet golden treasure inside is hid
Yes! I love it! haha. I am so curious to open it too! We will video when we crack it open when my husband gets home, after we tap it against a variety of different objects for fun.. I mean, for research, of course. 🤣
