Anyone ever freecycled their deep litter?

I have a compost bin but there's no way that all of what's in the run (using the DLM there too) is going to fit in there. Has anyone ever freecycled or craigslisted their shavings/poo? What do you say--free poo? Free compost fixins? Just stick it in big garbage bags?

Free organic avian manure, still young and must be allowed to age further before use in your garden.

Freecycle is like Craigslist (local) only it is all about giving away free stuff. (Yes, there is a similar feature on Craigs.) Sort of like recycling online. Amazing things to be had for free (at least where I live.) I believe one could put together an entire household from linens to dishware, to clothes, to electronics and appliances through freecycle.

Most areas have one. You have to sign up for your local group through the main website. Check it out!

Find someone who has a garden or worm bins. I collect mine in large bags for a local woman who has a huge garden with over 90 worm bins that she sells worms for vermicomposting. She is delighted to have it and will come get it whenever I shoot her an email. She uses it in her worm bins and garden.
Also- check out "Fred's Fine Fowl" youtube video- he shows that you can use it directly in the garden as mulch- without burning. Here is the link- I've put it directly on my ornamental beds and vegetable beds with no problems, and great results.

Chicken Poop is a great compost material.

I am sure that MANY neighbors would be happy for your compost.

However, if you use DE, be sure to let everyone know (since it could kill worms in the compost bin!!)

Thanks. I think i can find a few friends who have compost bins. I didn't know that about DE killing worms.

From my research, I've read that DE is safe for earthworms - red worms too, I assume. It's insects that are harmed/killed by DE...

Let me see if I can dig up a link...

Edit:

Found a link with this information:

Diatomaceous Earth will not harm warm-blooded animals or earthworms
Earthworm farmers use it to treat their worm beds for parasites, fungus gnat larva etc. Earth worms are structurally different from insects in that they can actually digest particles of DE. The particles are then eliminated in their castings.

It's on the internet, so it must be true.

Seriously though, I've read different sources saying that DE is safe for worms...

I've read the same thing. That's why I'm not so sure it works for internal worms. I understand it works on insects by slicing/grinding through the hard waxy exoskeleton in areas where they are jointed, and then drying the insect's internal moisture. Parasitic worms are soft bodied like earthworms, and in a moist environment, so don't see how the slicing would work better on them than earthworms, or dry them up when they are living in moisture...

Hmmmm:/ Just my analytical mind being skeptical, despite the high praise.
