Especially from Ideal hatchery?

We usually grow of some roos and pullets to sell at a local fleamarket/livestock auction and the hispanic people are usually are most frequent customers for young roosters for eating. They like the heavier birds, but seen to like colored ones better than solid whites for some reason. I am planning on an order from Ideal sometime next year and I was thinking I may try some to the red broilers, and keep a roo to breed with other normal sized heritage breed hens and raise the meat birds from them.

Has anyone ever had any? How big do they get and do they grow as fast as the white CornishXs? Any additional info or pics would be great.

Thanks.

I have some ideal red broiler chicks now, they are a little over 1 week old now. This is my first time with red broilers. They are some big hardy chicks!

This is a pic of them when they were 3 days:

I have a cousin who buys several hundred at a time from Ideal, raises them and sells them for $7.50 apiece. He loves them, very hardy birds. They don't come to weight as fast as the Cornish X but they also don't have the health issues that the Cornish X do.

mine now at almost two weeks old compared to cornish I've raised, they definantly grow slower. They aren't as big as cornish are at two weeks. But they do advertise as growing slower, they sure don't pig out like the cornish either.

That sounds good, I wouldn't really want them to grow out in just a few weeks, I just want some larger birds to grow off to 3-5 mos old and sell for meat.
