Anyone ever sold point of lay pullets?

I love raising chicks, but can't keep a lot more chickens than I already have. I've thought of ordering a batch of day-old pullets to raise to point of lay, and then selling most of them. (Keeping a few, of course!) I have a separate coop and run that would be ideal.

My question is, is this a reasonable way to make a LITTLE money, at least enough to cover the cost of their feed, etc. for 20 weeks?
And, how much approximately would I be able to sell them for? I realize this differs around the country, but just a ballpark figure. I'm not looking to make a living at it, just cover costs and enjoy the babies.

20 Week old pullets are not really available around here. A person would have to pay the expensive shipping from the places that DO sell POL pullets. I would be willing to take orders and then turn the hens over to the person when they reach 20 weeks, saving them the trouble of messing with baby chicks (which I love to do).

Or, I could just order an assortment of good laying breeds and sell them at POL.

Anybody got any suggestions, as to breed, etc, and how to set this up?

I raise them on starter to 6 weeks, and then put them on range(monitored for the first several weeks), and only supplement with grower, scraps, etc. I sell them at POL for about $10-12 each. Sometimes $8, depends on how fast I want them to go, and how many I have, and how much I have had to put into them. I do it mostly for fun, but make a little money for the effort. i do feed a good bit of table scraps as well so cost stays lower.

Totally depends on what breed-I get 15$ a piece or more...For people I know-really know.. 10-12$ Because they are alwasy returning for more throughout the year:)

I've figured out the feed, electricity to brood, etc and it comes out to about $1 per week (plus the initial cost of chick if purchased) if I want to make a teensy profit. So I tend to grow them out to 6-10 weeks, depending on what the buyer wants to pay. Some people just want them old enough to go outdoors to the coop (6 weeks if weather is nice, so that just takes a bit of planning on my part) or 10 weeks if they have an aggressive flock and need the pullets to be bigger. But since I really can't get more than $10-12 per pullet...I don't do it for longer than 10 weeks.

Yep, selling them all the time. I usually sell between 8-18 weeks. I usually get from $7-12 depending upon the age. I agree with the above, I really think it averages out to about $1.00 a week. The hatcheries sell theirs for $8.95-10.95, but the shipping is unbelievable. The sooner you can get rid of them the more you will make because from about 8 wks to point of lay brown egg layers suck in the food like crazy.

I sell my POL pullets at 18 wks. old for $10 each.

Chicks are a lot of work and they consume a lot of feed in those 18 wks., so don't be afraid to ask some $ for them. There are a lot of people who don't want to mess with chicks and won't have any problem paying some money to have somebody else do that work for them.

I just sold some 16wk old RIR pullets for $10.00 each. I put them on Craigslist and within 4hrs. I had over 100 responses. One lady that bought 4 of them is coming back this week to pick up 4 RIR hens for $20.00 each. Hey she offered...

Thanks for all your informative responses. I figured about $10-15 each. I won't know till I try to sell them. And, I'll have to check with my chicken sitter who takes over when I have to go out of town. I may have to give her "chick lessons". But she's a good egg (pun intended) and I'm sure will have no problem with it.

I am thinking of selling what I refer to as a Started Flock something like 10 pullets and a cockerel. Sold at 16 weeks.
