This is most likely a location-based thing. So probably the answers closest to SC will be the most useful as far as what to charge...but, from the other side of the coin...
When I bought my first chickens, that is exactly what I did. I didn't know what I was doing, and was afraid I would probably kill baby chicks in my ignorance. Plus, I didn't want to get attached to a chick that turned out to be a roo. My pullets weren't at POL, but they were feathered out and past the need for a heat lamp. I bought them @ 8-9 weeks old for $12/ea. Except the "Ameraucanas", which were $15/ea. They were guaranteed to be pullets (and they all were
). For people who only want 4-6 chickens, and don't know what to do with babies, this is a great deal. At least, I thought so. I think it was a fair deal for the lady who sold them to me, too. I noticed her price increased as the chicks she had got closer to laying, which I think is also very fair.
The other really smart thing she (and her husband) did, was that he built a few chicken tractors, and had them for sale as well. That was genious. So they were also selling the tractors for @ $300- $400 apiece, and bam! A person was totally set up. She also had bags of feed and feeders and waterers available. She sold those at cost to anyone buying her chickens.
I will totally emulate what she did when I get to that point.
ETA - oops...said NC - shoulda said SC
