This little chick is black with a silver chest. I think it may be half Silkie and half Barred Rock. I know Silkies are supposed to have 5 toes instead of 4, but the extra toe is seperate from the other toes.

This appears to be a "double" toe growing off the base of one toe.

Anybody seen this before?

Yes, I have mainly noticed it in mutts.

I have seen toes that aren't fully separated on some Silkies on their 4/5 toes... hatchery stock mostly.

Is the pinky toe just not visible in that pic? Or is that growing off the first toe?

The double toe is the back one, like a thumb. It's front 3 toes are normal. But it's thumb has a single base then it forks like a "Y" into 2 little bitty thumbs.

If you don't mind, I'll put something up on the weird toe parade. One of my broodies hatched this guy a couple years back. What's especially interesting is that in this particular cross, the males have white skin and the females have dark skin.

Its common in 5 toed breeds crossed to 4 toed breeds.
